A-Peering at the Fringe

The Peer Revue’s Adelaide Fringe run may be over, but you can still catch two thirds of them during remainder of the Festival!

Nicholas J Johnson, Australia’s honest con man, reveals how he sold his soul to current affairs television in an ill-fated quest for fame in Today Tonight, Tomorrow the World. Adelaide Now said the show contains “damn good material” and is “full of surprises”! See the show nightly at 8 PM in The Bally at Gluttony until Saturday, March 9. Visit FringeTix for online bookings, or get tickets at the Gluttony box office.

Ben McKenzie brings his improvised adventure comedy show Dungeon Crawl to Gluttony for four late night shows at 10:50 PM on March 8, 10, 15 and 16. Four guest performers create fantasy characters and go on a quest – but they’ll be making it all up as they go along. Visit FringeTix for online bookings, or get tickets at the Gluttony box office.

Ben is also recording his live Doctor Who podcast, Splendid Chaps, in Adelaide. He and co-host John Richards (co-creator of ABC1′s Outland) will be joined by guests Sean Williams (New York Times best-selling author) and Cathy Adamek (actor, dancer and director) to discuss Jon Pertwee’s Third Doctor and the theme of “Family” in Doctor Who. There will also be prizes and a musical act! Come along to the recording at 2 PM, Sunday March 10 at Tuxedo Cat, 199-200 North Terrace. Details, tickets and previous episodes available at spendidchaps.com.

The Peers are coming to Adelaide!

This Adelaide Fringe, the Peer Revue is coming to the Science Exchange for an exclusive season of three performances!

Simon Pampena, Ben McKenzie and Nicholas J Johnson, plus a special guest star each night, bring all the hilarity of science, maths and the mind to bear in a stand-up show that connects your funny bone to your brain bone. See The Revue above for details, and watch this space for more details on our guests!

A-peer-ing in a show near you…

The Melbourne International Comedy Festival guide is officially launched, our tickets are on sale, our web site is up and running… You’d think we could sit back and relax until March 28, wouldn’t you? But you’d be wrong! Your friendly neighbourhood Peers are popping up all over the place, all – or at least mostly – in the name of science!

Simon Pampena is heading to Adelaide for the world’s second largest Fringe festival, to perform not one, but two shows! You can find him in the Garden of Unearthly Delights performing his hit show for kids of all ages, The Maths Olympics, on weekends at 2 PM from February 18 to March 4. If you want to learn how to become a celebrity, you should also find him at the Royal Institustion of Australia’s Science Exchange, performing three nights only of his newest show, The Fame Algorithm, from March 1 to 3 at 7:30. Follow the links for season details and tickets sales!

Meanwhile, back in Melbourne, Nicholas J Johnson will be making the jokes smarter at Comedy at Spleen at Spleen Bar on Bourke Street, 8:30 this Monday, February 20. There’s always a big line-up of comedians, and entry is free. You can also find Nicholas hosting The Variety Collective on Wednesday February 29 and March 7 at The Brunswick Green on Sydney Road, Brunswick. The Variety Collective is a weekly (yes, weekly!) variety night, co-founded by Nicholas, which features all kinds of great entertainment, from jugglers and magicians to comedians, cabaret singers and sideshow stunt artists – and entry is only $10!

If you’re after something nerdier, Ben McKenzie has you covered with his monthly show Dungeon Crawl, an improvised adventure comedy based on Dungeons & Dragons and other role-playing games. It’s at the Bella Union at Trades Hall at 8:30 on Wednesday March 7 at 8:30, and tickets are $15. After Dungeon Crawl at 10 PM is a free trial of Pop Up Playground, in which the audience join forces with guest comedians to find the traitorous killer werewolves in their ranks. Ben is also appearing at Cherchez la Femme’s Celebration of International Women’s Day on March 8 at the Grace Darling Hotel, and hosting political stand-up room Political Asylum on Sunday, March 11 at the Brunswick Green.

So it’s a big couple of months for the Peers – but don’t worry, they’re just keeping fighting fit for the Peer Revue main event at Comedy Festival!
